Madeline was able to go to school for two days before her back surgery. Every six months she has to go in for lengthening of her rods and it has not been done for a while due to her heart. Now that the doctors have been able to fix her heart as good as they can her back doctor was given the green light to proceed. We told Madeline about her back surgery a few weeks before and her response was to tell the doctor if he could fix her foot at the same time. We all got a chuckled at her response and it helped to put everyone at ease, because Madeline was so calm about her upcoming procedure. A few days later we learned that Grant's parents would be in town during her surgery. Madeline then wrote a letter to her Grandma and Grandpa asking them to come in their RV and see her at her back hospital. The invitation was accepted and Madeline was excited to see her Grandparents the evening of her surgery. With the lengthening Madeline only spends the night in the hospital and then goes home. Madeline being the trooper that she is, usually comes home and jumps right back into life with no pain or hiccups. This time while she was in the hospital, Madeline wanted her snuggly (favorite blanket) covering her eyes so she couldn't see what was going on; for her this brought a lot of comfort. I don't blame her I wouldn't want to see what was going on around me either.
